Join Volleyball for Lymphoma Cancer Awareness Night

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University volleyball team is hosting Lymphoma Awareness Night on Saturday, Sept. 25. The event will be held in conjunction with Willamettes volleyball game against the University of Puget Sound. Game time is set to begin at 7 p.m. (PDT).

The team will be donating 100% of gate admissions and a portion of concession sales to Lymphoma Research. Admission with be $5 at the gate.

Fans are encouraged to wear lime green to show support for lymphoma research. According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that 74,030 men and women will be diagnosed with and 21,530 men and women will die of lymphoma cancer in 2010.

The Willamette team has a good reason to show support for lymphoma research. Sophomore middle hitter Josephine Johnstons mom, Bernice, was diagnosed with lymphoma in the summer of 2009. She is now in remission and will be in attendance on Sept. 25.

Lymphoma, like other cancers, does not have a cure. There are different types of lymphoma and a variety of treatment options for patients. In the meantime, research is pushing to find a cure.

During the game, fans will have to opportunity to take part in a 50/50 raffle or a serving challenge. Participants will have a chance to serve into a marked area to win a prize.

The Bearcat volleyball team is currently 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Northwest Conference play.

The Bearcats will host Lymphoma Awareness Night when they take on Puget Sound on Saturday, Sept. 25.
