Emily Compton named to Pacific Coast Classic All-Tournament Team

Senior Setter Led Bearcats in Assists and Service Aces

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University setter Emily Compton (Sr., Portola, CA/Portola HS/Boise State Univ.) has been named to the All-Tournament Team for the Pacific Coast Classic, held last weekend in La Verne, Calif., and Claremont, Calif.

Compton, who played every set of every match, racked up 150 assists and averaged 8.82 assists per set at the tournament. She also provided a team-high seven service aces.

Candice Cuppini (Benedictine), Kylie McLogan (California Lutheran), Val Geiger (Chapman), Corrine Ostrovsky (Chapman), Audrey Breitweiser (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Regina Mullen (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Audrey Krajec (Millikin), Allie Frappier (Pomona-Pitzer), Michelle Schultz (Pomona-Pitzer), Sandra Gutierrez (University of California, Santa Cruz), and Alayna Rigo (Whittier) rounded out the All-Tournament Team.

Willamette earned a 2-2 record at the Pacific Coast Classic. After falling 3-1 to UC Santa Cruz to open the tournament, the Bearcats achieved a thrilling five-set victory over the University of La Verne. Willamette trailed the match 2-0 before rallying to win behind Compton's 45 assists.

On day two, the Bearcats dropped their first game 3-0 to CMS, but held off a late rally from Pomona-Pitzer in their second game to notch a 3-2 victory. Compton provided 50 assists and three service aces in WU's win.

Willamette next travels to Colorado Springs, Colo., to participate in the Colorado College Molten Classic on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. The Bearcats will take on Bridgewater College (Va.) and Lakeland College (Wis.) on Friday, and will battle host Colorado College on Saturday. WU will conclude the tournament in the championship match or the third place match.
