
Portland, OR - Willamette Volleyball won their fourth straight match with a 3-0 defeat of Lewis & Clark College, 25-17, 31-29, 25-19. Nora Wade led the Bearcats with nine kills and hit .389 for the match.
The first set got off to a strong start for the Bearcats as they took a 12-6 lead on a kill by Wade. The Pioneers would fight back and eventually tie the set at 17 before Willamette scored the final eight points of the match. Katey Cramer had two consecutive service aces in the final run for the Bearcats and Wade finished off the set with the final three kills.
The second set was back and forth between the teams and found the score tied 18 times during the set and the largest lead for either team being a 19-16 advantage for the Bearcats. The Pioneers took a 29-28 lead on a kill by Annika Traxler, but Willamette won the final three points to win set two 31-29.
The third set was very similar to the first with Willamette building a four-point advantage on several occasions and taking a 17-12 lead before Lewis & Clark made a small run of their own. The Pioneers would get within two at 21-19 on another kill by Traxler, but Willamette won the final four points to take the third set and the match 25-19.
Wade led Willamette with 9 kills, followed closely by Olivia Cadien with 8 and Katey Cramer with 6. Leina Chu had 24 assists and 11 digs for the Bearcats. Dream Takemoto led Willamette with 14 digs. Emalia Freitas had four blocks and Alayna Hughes had four service aces.
The Bearcats return home this weekend to host Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, October 18th, and the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, October 19th. Both matches will start at 7:00 pm.
