Castillo Selected NWC Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University junior Leo Castillo (Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Pier Park Invitational in Portland, Ore., on Friday, Sept. 10. Castillo placed second in the 8-kilometer men's race and helped Willamette take second in the team standings.

Castillo completed the men's race with a time of 25:06.67. The winner of the race was Joash Osoro from the University of Portland, who crossed the finish line in 24:42.95. Castillo led a 2-4-6-10-11 finish for the Bearcats, who recorded a team score of 33 and trailed only team champion University of Portland, which registered a score of 26.

The Bearcats will return to action on Friday, Sept. 17, when they host the Willamette Grass Course. The women's 5-kilometer race is slated to get underway at Bush's Pasture Park at 12 p.m. (PDT). The men's race, covering just under 7.1 meters, is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
