Castillo Chosen NWC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

Places 56th out of 664 Runners at AAE Invite, is 27th Finisher from NCAA Division III

SALEM, ORE. -- Yonny Castillo (Jr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) from Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the AAE Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 18 in Winneconne, Wis. He placed 56th overall out of 664 runners in the men's competition.

Castillo was 44th among scorers at the meet, as he helped Willamette place 20th out of 45 teams. His time was 25:29.3 over the 8-kilometer course. When the meet was scored for NCAA Division III teams only, Castillo placed 27th and the Bearcats were 15th in the team standings.

Earlier this month, Castillo was chosen NWC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week after leading Willamette to a third place team finish at the 40th Annual Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Oct. 4. Castillo placed 19th in the Men's Cardinal 8K race in a personal record time of 25:05.0, as he took 40 seconds of his previous best time.

The next competition for the Bearcats will be the 2014 Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1. The Bearcats will host the meet at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore. Action starts at 10 a.m. (PDT) with the men's 8-kilometer race. The women's 6-kilometer race is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

Yonny Castillo was Willamette's top finisher at the AAE Invitational in Winneconne, Wis. He placed 56th overall and was 27th among runners from NCAA Division III.
