Carr Selected as NWC Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- For the second time this season, Willamette University runner Hazel Carr (Sr., Seattle, WA/The Northwest School) has been named Northwest Conference Women's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week. Her most recent award was for her successful efforts in the Women's 6k Pre-National Open Race at the Universitiy of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Winneconne, Wisconsin. Carr also earned the NWC honor earlier this year for her first place finish at the Ash Creek Preserve Invitational on Sept. 7 near Monmouth, Oregon.

Carr placed third out of 328 runners in the Women's 6K Pre-National Open Race in Wisconsin with a time of 23:40.40. She trailed only Molly Shepherd from Washington University (Mo.), who won the race in 23:26.02, and Katie Bacher from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who was second in 23:35.78. Carr was one of three Bearcats among the top 40 finishers. Maggie Chapin (Jr., Buffalo, WY/Buffalo HS) placed 24th in 24:18.35, and Ashley Evans (Sr., PG, Canby, OR/Canby HS) took 36th place in 24:34.87. 

The race included only NCAA Division III teams with an unlimited number of runners per team. Team scores were not recorded.

Willamette will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the 2018 NWC Cross Country Championships. The women's 6-kilometer race and the men's 8-kilometer race will be held at McIver Park. The first race will get underway at 10 a.m. (PDT).
