Chew is Named NWC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University runner Jay Chew (Fy., Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Linfield Harrier Classic on Friday, Sept. 2. Chew won the individual title in the men's 6-kilometer race to lead Willamette to the team championship.

Chew completed the course in 20:19.5 to win by 20.5 seconds. He helped the Bearcats earn a team score of 25 to defeat Linfield University. The Wildcats finished with 30 points. Western Oregon University did not enter a full team. Several members of the Willamette triathlon team also competed in the meet.

In the official men's scoring, the Bearcats finished 1-3-6-7-8, while Linfield took 2-4-5-9-10. A total of 21 runners participated in the men's race.

Willamette will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Humboldt Invitational in Arcata, California. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. (PDT).
