Chew is Selected as NWC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Jay Chew (Fy., Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek HS) from Willamette University has been chosen a the Northwest Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Lewis-Clark State College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8. The race was held in Lewiston, Idaho.

Chew was Willamette's top finisher in the men's 8-kilometer race as he placed 47th overall and 33rd among scorers with a time of 26:40. The meet included NCAA Division I teams Idaho, Montana, and Gonzaga, as well as NCAA Division II team Central Washington and several NAIA teams. Willamette was the only NCAA Division III team in the competition.

Earlier this season, Chew won the individual title at the Linfield Harrier Classic on Sept. 2. He placed first in the 6-kilometer race in 20:19.5.

The Bearcats will run again on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the 2022 NWC Cross Country Championships in Forest Grove, Oregon. Pacific University will be hosting the meet.
