Chew Earns 65th Place in Men's 8-kilometer Race at NCAA West Regional

RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Jay Chew (So., Elk Grove, CA/Laguna Creek HS) led the Willamette University men's cross country team by placing 65th out of 171 runners in the 8-kilometer men's race at the 2023 NCAA Division III West Regional on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Riverside Cross Country Course. Chew registered a time of 26:31.1.

Also for Willamette, William Hennum (Jr., Henderson, NV/Liberty HS/SW Oregon CC) was timed at 27:08.2 as he crossed the finish line in 102nd place. Adam Lewis (Fy., Glendale, CA/Eagle Rock HS) earned a time of 27:18.1 for the Bearcats, while Sage Soto (Fy., Kapolei, HI/Kapolei HS) completed the course in 28:29.4 and Joshua Evans (Jr., Lafayette, CA/Acalanes HS) was timed at 28:35.6. Julien Trobaugh of WU attained a time of 29:19.6.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Calif.) won the men's West Regional title with a score of 45 (2-4-11-13-18). Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) took second place at 93 and George Fox University was third at 104. Colorado College was fourth at 121 and the University of California, Santa Cruz was fifth at 132. Willamette was 20th with a score of 540.

James Settles from Colorado College won the men's individual championship in 24:23.0. He won by 14.4 seconds over Lucas Florsheim from Pomona-Pitzer, who claimed second place in 24:37.4. Ryan Stracke of Pacific Lutheran University placed third at 24:41.2. Drek Fearon of Pomona Pitzer took fourth place at 24:44.7. Devlin Swanson of Colorado College was fifth with a time of 24:48.1.
