SALEM, Ore. -- A total of 51 Willamette University student-athletes will be presenting academic projects during the 23rd Annual Student Scholarship Recognition Day (SSRD) on Wednesday, April 13. The presentations will be made throughout the Willamette campus and will involve many academic departments.
Student Scholarship Recognition Day is held at Willamette each spring to honor the exceptional scholarship and creativity shown by Willamette students. Each year, studnets are able to share the results of their research, to present musical, theatrical, or dance performances, and to display works of art to their fellow students, as well a faculty, staff, family, and friends.
Willamette does not hold regular undergraduate classes on the day of SSRD so that the entire campus community can celebrate the great accomplishments of students throughout various academic departments and majors. This special day shows Willamette's committment to student scholarship while honoring student-faculty research.
Students presenting at SSRD have received support for their efforts in a variety of ways. some have worked directly with faculty members as research assistants or on student-faculty collaborative projects. Others have created and conduced their own research. Many of the projects were completed during the summer break or throughout the student's senior year while working on a thesis or capstone research. Some students have created original works in fine and performing arts.
Overall, there will be more than 150 presentations including more than 400 student contributors. In addition to classmates, friends, and family, many sessions will include audience members that are prospective students or donors to the WU College of Arts and Sciences. Everyone is welcome to attend. Most sessions will be in-person, however some will have a Zoom opition, and some will be Zoom only. See the 2022 SSRD Schedule.
