One of the top defensive backs and kick returners in Willamette football history, Ekroth-Bernard still holds school records for interceptions in a game (3), plus the game, season, and career records for punt return attempts, yards, and touchdowns. His 75-yard punt return against Linfield on October 18, 1997, is also the longest in school history. A First Team All-NWC performer in 1997 and 1999, Ekroth-Bernard helped anchor some of the most dominant defenses in Willamette history during his career. In 1997, he was named honorable mention NAIA All-America and was a first-team Burger King Coaches All-America selection.
