  • Stalker Earns Third Team All-America Honors from D3Baseball.com

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) has been named Third Team All-America by D3Baseball.com for his efforts during the 2009 season. Stalker led the Bearcats with a .455 batting average, smacked a team-high 15 home runs and topped the WU lineup with 52 RBIs.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference in baseball for the second consecutive season. Stalker was one of five Bearcats selected for All-NWC recognition, with Jack McGee (Sr., RHP/3B, Hillsborough, CA./St. Ignatius HS) on the Second Team and five WU players receiving Honorable Mention.

    SA.LEM, ORE. -- Willamette University baseball player Jack McGee (Sr., Utility, Hillsborough, CA/St. Ignatius HS) has been named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts as the Bearcats swept a series against Pacific University on April 25-26. McGee, a versatile athlete who saw action as a right fielder, designated hitter and pitcher during the week, hit .529 on offense to help Willamette go 4-0 against the Boxers.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Doug Bloom (So., SS, Salem, OR/South Salem HS) scored from second base on a single by Jack McGee (Sr., RHP/UTIL, Hillsborough, CA/St. Ignatius HS) with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 12-11, in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 26. The Bearcats trailed 11-10 after Pacific's Joey Pulito hit a grand slam in the top of the seventh, but WU answered with two runs to win the game.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University rallied from a 9-3 deficit after 2 1/2 innings and went on to defeat Pacific University 11-10 in 10 innings, in the first game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader at John Lewis Field on Saturday, April 25. Willamette won the second game 8-1 to sweep the doubleheader.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Devin Grindy (So., RHP, Washougal, WA/Camas HS) threw a complete-game for Willamette University and limited Linfield College to seven hits, as the Bearcats defeated the Wildcats, 4-3, in the second game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 19 at Roy Helser Field. Linfield scored seven runs in the second inning of the first game on its way to a 13-1 win.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Doug Bloom (So., SS, Salem, OR/Sprague HS) drove in David Tufo (Sr., 3B, San Bruno, CA/Burlingame HS) from second base with a two-out RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to send Willamette University past Linfield College, 6-5, in the second game of a doubleheader at Roy Helser Field on Saturday, April 18. In the opener, Linfield tallied five runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Bearcats, 6-1.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) has been named Northwest Conference Baseball Player Student-Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row. He batted .467 (7 of 15) with four homers, eight runs and 12 RBIs in five games from April 7-11. His efforts helped the Bearcats go 3-2 during the week.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and George Fox University hope to complete their Northwest Conference baseball series with a doubleheader of 7-inning games on Tuesday, April 14 at John Lewis Field. The games were originally scheduled for March 15, but they were rained out.

    SALEM, ORE. -- George Fox University, ranked #21 in NCAA Division III, improved to 26-7 on the season by sweeping a doubleheader from Willamette University, 15-1 and 16-1, on Tuesday, April 14 at John Lewis Field. The Bruins also upped their NWC record to 21-3.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University blasted five homers and accumulated 22 hits, as the Bearcats defeated the University of Puget Sound, 21-10, in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11 at John Lewis Field. The win allowed WU to gain a split of the twinbill, after the Loggers won the first game, 8-4.
  • Dearborn Hits Three-Run Homer in 6-5 Win over Puget Sound

    SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Dearborn (So., CF, Solana Beach, CA/Torrey Pines HS) of Willamette University smacked a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give WU a 3-0 lead, and the Bearcats went on to defeat the University of Puget Sound, 6-5, in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday, April 10 at John Lewis Field. Puget Sound scored five runs in the first inning of the second game and defeated the Bearcats, 20-5, to split the twinbill.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University baseball doubleheader against the University of Puget Sound on Saturday, April 11 will be webcast by Full Access Sports. Willamette opens the weekend with a 13-11 overall record. The Bearcats are 10-7 in the Northwest Conference.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) had an outstanding series on the road against Whitman College, April 4-5, and has been chosen Northwest Conference Baseball Player Student-Athlete of the Week. Stalker was 7 of 14 and drove in 12 runs in the four games. Along the way, he set a Willamette record with 143 career RBIs.
  • Stalker Blasts Two Homers in 5-2 Win over Corban

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University first baseman Kyle Stalker (Sr., Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) hit two home runs, and five pitchers combined to hold Corban College to two runs and eight hits, as the Bearcats defeated the Warriors, 5-2, at John Lewis Field on Tuesday, April 7. Stalker blasted a solo homer to center field in the fifth inning and smacked another ball over the center field fence for a solo home run in the eighth inning.
  • Swick Receives Title of Head Baseball Coach at Willamette

    SALEM, ORE. -- After about seven months as the interim head coach of the Willamette University baseball team, Aaron Swick has been promoted to the position of head baseball coach for the Bearcats. Swick was hired this past September to lead the team on an interim basis. He will now continue to serve as the head coach beyond the current season.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Willamette University rallied from a 9-0 deficit by scoring nine runs with two outs in the sixth inning, and the Bearcats went on to defeat Whitman College, 11-9 in eight innings, to start a Northwest Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 5. The Bearcats completed the day with a 15-6 win in the second game, as WU swept the four-game series.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Willamette University plated a total of 27 runs in two games on Saturday, April 4, as the Bearcats swept a doubleheader from Northwest Conference rival Whitman College. The Bearcats won the first game, 13-5, and took the second game, 14-2.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University rallied from a 6-4 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, as the Bearcats defeated Whitworth University, 11-6, on Sunday, March 29 in the completion of a game suspended on Saturday. The Bearcats also defeated Whitworth, 4-3 and 7-1 in the two games originally scheduled for Sunday.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's baseball doubleheader with Whitworth University on Saturday, March 28 was in the third inning of the first game when rain postponed play at John Lewis Field in Salem, Ore. Whitworth was leading 5-2 with two outs in the top of the third when play was suspended.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The weather keeps delaying the Willamette University versus George Fox University baseball doubleheader originally scheduled for March 15. After being rained out on the original date, the teams had hoped to play on Wednesday, March 25. Additional rain, however, has postponed the doubleheader again. The teams have tentatively set April 1 as the new makeup date.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Pacific Lutheran University continued its strong play in Northwest Conference action, as the Lutes swept a doubleheader from visiting Willamette University, 17-6 and 8-4, on Saturday, March 21 at PLU Field. The Lutes improved to 12-5 overall and to 8-2 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 5-9 overall, 3-5 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- George Fox University pulled away from Willamette University for a 22-7 win on Wednesday, March 18, in the continuation of a Northwest Conference game suspended by rain on Saturday, March 14 after just three innings. GFU improved to 13-3 overall and remained undefeated in the NWC at 10-0. Willamette fell to 5-7 on the season, 3-3 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University and George Fox University baseball teams will try to complete their suspended game on Wednesday, March 18, starting at 3:30 p.m. at John Lewis Field. The game was suspended on Saturday, March 14 at the end of the third inning with the scored tied 3-3.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader between Willamette University and George Fox University set for Sunday, March 15 has been canceled due to extensive rainfall and the high probability of continued rain throughout the day. The Bearcats and the Bruins planned to finish Saturday's game that was suspended after three innings and also hoped to play one 7-inning game on Sunday.

Even so, rain got in the way and forced the teams to stop playing after three innings in the first game. The Bearcats and the Bruins were tied at 3-3 when play was suspended.

Left fielder Matt Wyckoff of GFU hit three home runs, including a grand slam in the fourth inning.
