Hoffman Named NWC Baseball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week

Throws a complete game against Lewis & Clark in a 3-Hit Shutout

SALEM, ORE. -- Peter Hoffman (So., RHP, Hayden, ID/Lake City HS) who tossed a complete-game 3-hitter in Willamette University's 7-0 victory over Lewis & Clark on Saturday, March 23, has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Hoffman limited the Pioneers to one double and two singles to record the win. He allowed only five runners on base and threw just 82 pitches. He recorded four strikeouts, allowed one walk and held Lewis & Clark to a .103 batting average.

Willamette provided plenty of run support for Hoffman, as the Bearcats scored three runs in the second inning, added three runs in the fourth and tacked on one more in the eighth.

For the season, Hoffman leads Willamette's starters with a 3.48 earned run average. He has achieved a 3-4 record with 33 strikeouts and 12 walks in 51 2/3 innings pitched. He has restricted opponents to a .208 batting average.

Willamette earned two wins in the three-game series against Lewis & Clark. The Bearcats upped their record to 8-14 on the season, including 4-8 in the NWC.

The Bearcats are playing a doubleheader at Oregon Institute of Technology today (March 26) and will return to NWC action on Friday, March 29, when the Bearcats will play a doubleheader at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., starting at 1 p.m. (PDT). WU and Pacific will complete the series with a single game on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m.

Peter Hoffman threw a complete-game and allowed just three hits in Willamette's 7-0 win over Lewis & Clark on March 23.
