SALEM, ORE. -- Junior pitcher Peter Hoffman (RHP, Hayden, ID/Lake City HS) threw a complete game and allowed just eight hits and an unearned run, as Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 5-1, on Sunday, March 30 at John Lewis Field.

Hoffman struck out six batters and allowed one walk. He threw 120 pitches, including 82 strikes. After scoring its only run in the first inning on two hits and one error, Pacific was unable to score again as Hoffman improved to 3-2.

Kyle Treadway, who started on the mound for Pacific, pitched seven innings and fell to 2-4. He gave up nine hits and five runs, but only two runs were earned. He struck out four batters, gave up three walks and hit two batters.

The Bearcats plated an unearned run of their own without recording a hit in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game.

With one out, Brandon Chinn (Sr., OF/1B, Salem, OR/Sprague HS) was hit by a pitch and Hunter Gallant (Jr., 3B, Rescue, CA/Ponderosa HS) walked. Chinn was tagged out when Ty Wyatt (Fr., DH/INF, Keizer, OR/McNary HS) hit into a fielder's choice, but the third baseman threw wildly toward first, and Gallant scored while Wyatt went to second.

WU eventually moved in front by scoring once in the bottom of the fifth. Rolenn Himuro (Jr., OF, Honolulu, HI/Punahou School), who singled to start the inning, scored on a sacrifice fly by Gallant. In between, Austin Hagarty (So., 2B, Roseville, CA/Woodcreek HS) provided a sacrifice bunt, while Chinn was hit by a pitch for the second time, and Tommy Kawamura (Sr., SS/2B, Renton, WA/Lindbergh HS) walked.

Willamette won the pitcher's duel by extending its 2-1 lead with two runs in the sixth and one run in the eighth.

In the sixth, Tiras Koon (Jr., 1B/C, Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) and Tosh Semlacher (Sr., CF, Gold River, CA/Jesuit HS) singled. They both scored after Brad Breier (Jr., C, Torrance, CA/South HS) hit a bunt single and the throw by the catcher went into foul territory. Koon doubled in the eighth. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Semlacher.

Semlacher was 3 for 4 for the Bearcats. He scored one run and earned one RBI. Koon (Jr., 1B/C, Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) was 2 of 4 with a double and two runs scored. Hunter Gallant (Jr., 3B, Rescue, CA/Ponderosa HS) achieved two hits in two bats, while scoring once and earning one RBI. Gallant was 8 for 12 during he three-game series.

Donnie Bradley and Justin Strayer each finished 2 of 4 for the Boxers. Bradley scored Pacific's run.
