Bearcats Excel in Summer Baseball Leagues

SALEM, Ore. -- Action in collegiate summer baseball leagues is well underway for fourteen Willamette University athletes. The Bearcats have compiled some impressive statistics so far this summer.

Ty Wyatt (Jr./So., DH/3B, Keizer, OR/McNary HS) of the Klamath Falls Gems in the West Coast League is batting .232 with 69 at bats. He has smacked two homers and hit three doubles, while earning six RBIs.

Jackson Watt (Sr., RHP, Rocklin, CA/Whitney HS) also playing for Klamath Falls, has pitched in eight games with a 3.46 ERA and a 0-0 record. He has recorded eight strikeouts in 13 innings.

Lucas Still (So., RHP, Sacramento, CA/Christian Brothers HS, a member of the Sacramento Legends of the Sacramento Premier Baseball League, is 6-3 on the mound with a 1.91 earned run average. He has thrown 61 1/2 innings and has amassed 49 strikeouts.

Jared Spohr (So., LHP, Elk Grove, CA/Pleasant Grove HS), also with the Sacramento Legends, owns a 2.87 ERA with a 1-3 record in 15 2/3 innings. He has struck out nine batters.

The Solano Mudcats (Calif.) have received solid play from Gordie Clary (Jr., LHP/RF, Vacaville, CA/Vacaville HS). He has earned a .306 batting average in 49 at bats, while pounding out six doubles. As a pitcher, Clary has contributed a 2.76 ERA over 29 1/3 innings. He is 1-0 on the season and has struck out 21 batters.

Shea Harrison (Sr., OF/RHP, El Cerrito, CA/El Cerrito HS),Jett Gallagher (So., RHP, Santa Cruz, CA/Santa Cruz HS) and Eric del Prado (So., INF, El Segundo, CA/Loyola HS) have competed for teams in the Golden State Collegiate Baseball League in California.

Harrison has achieved a .317 on-base percentage with five runs and three RBIs in 11 games for the Alameda Merchants, Gallagher has gone 1-2 in 31 1/3 innings on the mound for the South Bay Storm with a 5.74 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Meanwhile, del Prado has hit .279 in 61 at bats for the Atwater Aviators. He has belted four doubles and hit 11 runs.

In addition, Prado has pitched in 15 innings for Atwater. He owns a 4.80 ERA with a 0-1 record and 16 strikeouts.

Jacob Parra (Jr., C, Everett, WA/Mariner HS/Edmonds CC) with Rainier Snowcaps (Wash.) of the Northwest Collegiate Baseball League, holds a .286 batting average. He has hit two doubles and driven in five runs in 21 at bats.

Jack Brett (So., C, Aurora, CO/Regis Jesuit HS) with the Denver Cougars in the Rocky Mountain Baseball League, is hitting .274 in 73 at bats. Brett has hit four doubles and a triple to go along with 16 RBIs.

Nate Bush (So., SS, Boise, ID/Boise HS) of the Boise Seminoles in Idaho American Legion is batting an impressive .383 on the season with 70 at bats. He has blasted 11 doubles four triples and one home run.

Another quality batting average belongs to Cameron Igarashi (So., RF, Honolulu, HI/Mid-Pacific Institute) of the Waipahu Marauders in Hawaiian American Legion. Igarashi is batting .327 with 52 at bats, seven doubles, a triple and 12 RBIs.

Statistics were not available for Perry van Eckhardt (So., OF, El Cerrito, CA/El Cerrito HS) of the independent Bercovich Gold (Calif.) and Aaron Fong (So., SS, Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) of the the Hawaiian Island Movers.

NOTE: Eligibility year listed for each player is for the 2016 season.

Infielder Nate Bush is batting .383 with 11 doubles and four triples for the Boise Seminoles.

Lucas Still has recorded a 1.91 earned run average and a 6-3 record for the Sacramento Legends.
