Mitchell Chosen NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in victories by the Bearcats over the University of Puget Sound and Linfield College last week. Mitchell averaged 26.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

The Bearcats defeated visiting Puget Sound, 90-75, at Cone Field House on Friday, Feb. 5. The next day, Willamette outscored Linfield College, 105-93, in McMinnville, Ore. Willamette is 6-15 overall and 3-9 in the NWC. The Bearcats are 3-2 in their last five games.

During the week, Mitchell shot 61.8% from the field (21 of 34) and achieved five steals (2.5 avg.). He scored 25 points and hauled down 10 rebounds against Puget Sound. At Linfield, he led Willamette with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Mitchell leads the NWC in scoring and rebounding this season. He has averaged 21.3 points per game and has grabbed 12.2 boards per contest. He has achieved 17 double-doubles and has scored in double figures in all 21 games.

This week's selection is the third time Mitchell has been chosen Student-Athlete of the Week this season. He also received the honor on Dec. 15 and Jan. 5.

Willamette returns to action tonight (Feb. 9) at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore. Game time is set for 6 p.m. (PST), with the women's game to follow at approximately 8 p.m.

Cameron Mitchell recorded his 16th and 17th double-doubles of the year in Willamette's two wins last week.
