Mitchell Repeats as NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Cameron Mitchell (Sr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) of Willamette University has been chosen Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row. It is the fourth time he has been named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week this season. He also received the honor on Dec. 15, Jan. 5 and Feb. 9.

Mitchell provided the Bearcats with a strong all-around effort during the week. He averaged 21.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. He shot 46.2% from the floor (18 of 39) and averaged 35 minutes played.

Willamette went 1-1 in two Northwest Conference games during the week. The Bearcats won at Lewis & Clark College, 80-73, on Tuesday, Feb. 9. Willamette lost to George Fox University, 89-81, on Friday, Feb. 12.

Mitchell scored 23 points and hauled down nine rebounds against Lewis & Clark. He registered 20 points an grabbed 25 boards versus George Fox. His 25 rebounds tied for second on Willamette's all-time list for rebounds in a single game.

For the season, Mitchell is Willamette's leading scorer and rebounder. He also leads the NWC in both categories, as he has averaged 21.3 points and 12.7 rebounds per game. He ranks second in the NWC in field goal percentage at 57.7% (192 of 333) and is second in blocked shots (1.30 avg., 30 in 23 games).

In three years at Willamette, Mitchell has scored 1,163 points and grabbed 770 rebounds. During his collegiate career, including his freshman season at the University of Redlands (Calif.), Mitchell has recorded 1,305 points and achieved 938 rebounds.

Willamette is 7-16 overall and 4-10 in the NWC. The Bearcats will close out the season with a pair of NWC games this weekend. On Friday, Feb. 19, Willamette will take on Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., at 8 p.m. (PST). On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Bearcats will host Pacific University at Cone Field House, with tip-off set for 8 p.m. (PST).

Cameron Mitchell leads the NWC this year in scoring (21.3 points per game) and rebounding (12.7 boards per game).
