    TACOMA, WASH. -- Pacific Lutheran University hit 24 of 30 free throws, including 18 of 23 in the second half, as the Lutes rallied from a 45-41 halftime deficit to edge out Willamette University, 90-87, on Friday, Feb. 18 at Olson Auditorium. The Lutes made 7 of 8 free throws in the final two minutes to hold off the Bearcats.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College scored 17 of the first 19 points and shot 70.4% in the first half, as the Missionaries built a 29-point halftime lead on their way to a 119-77 win over Willamette University on Saturday, Feb. 12. Whitman upped its record to 17-6, 10-4 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette moved to 6-17 overall, 3-11 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's basketball team, which won both of its games last weekend, returns to action by taking on Whitworth University, the #1-ranked team in this week's NCAA Division III Poll released by D3hoops.com. The Bearcats will battle the Pirates on Friday, Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. (PST) in Spokane, Wash. Willamette will conclude the week by playing Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m.

    SPOKANE, WASH. -- Whitworth University, ranked #1 in this week's D3hoops.com Top 25, defeated Willamette University, 115-69, at the Whitworth Fieldhouse on Friday, Feb. 11 to remain undefeated at 22-0 overall, 13-0 in the Northwest Conference. The Pirates shot 52.7% from the field (39 of 74) and committed just nine turnovers. Willamette fell to 6-16 on the season, 3-10 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University shot 61.5% in the first half and struggled from the field in the second half, but held off Pacific University, 80-76, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House on Saturday, Feb. 5. Freshman guard Trevor Bos (Lakewood, CA/St. John Bosco HS) clinched the win by hitting two free throws with five seconds left to create the final score.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Taylor Mounts (Jr., Wing/Post, Kailua, HI/Iolani School) scored on a 3-point shot from the top of the key with 1.4 seconds remaining to send Willamette University to a 90-88 Northwest Conference victory over Linfield College on Friday, Feb. 5 at Ted Wilson Gymnasium.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The University of Puget Sound held off a late surge by Willamette University to claim a 69-65 victory in Northwest Conference men's basketball action on Saturday, Jan. 29 at Cone Field House. The Loggers improved to 8-11, 5-5 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 4-15, 1-9 in the NWC. UPS committed 32 turnovers, compared to 17 by the Bearcats. Willamette was unable to take advantage of the turnover margin because the Bearcats shot just 32.4% for the game, finally climbing above the 30% mark with their final rally. Kaleb Shelton led Puget Sound with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Edric Egberuare added 13 points and 10 boards. Terrell Malley (So., G, Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) topped Willamette with 20 points. Taylor Mounts (Jr., Wing/Post, Kailua, HI/Iolani School) tacked on 18.
  • George Fox Ends Game with 28-13 Run to Defeat Bearcats, 117-100

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- George Fox University outscored Willamette University 28-13 in the final 8:39 to pull away from the Bearcats for a 117-100 victory in Northwest Conference play on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Wheeler Sports Center. GFU moved to 5-13 on the season, 3-6 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 4-14, 1-8 in the NWC.
  • Pacific Lutheran Surges Past Bearcats, 99-72

    SALEM, ORE. -- Pacific Lutheran University sank 11 of 20 three-pointers and made 30 of 37 free throws, as the Lutes defeated Willamette University, 99-72, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Lutes were led by Kyle MacTaggart, who scored 31 points, and by Andrew Earnest, who tacked on 24 points.

    BELTON, TEXAS -- The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor held off a tenacious Willamette University men's basketball team to defeat the Bearcats, 79-75, in the second round of the Cru Holiday Basketball Classic on Thursday, Dec. 30. UMHB improved to 8-1, but Willamette, now 3-8, battled the home team throughout the game. The score was tied 35-35 at halftime and the Crusaders led by just three points heading into the final minute of play.

WU had a chance to win the game on the final shot of overtime, but Ryan Meehan (Jr., Wing, Beaverton, OR/Beaverton HS/MSU-Billings) was pressured while shooting a jumper near the free throw line and was unable to connect on the game-winning attempt.

Sometimes he is open underneath the basket and scores on an easy layup. At other times, he battles to get a rebound and scores on the put-back. Occasionally, he shoots a jump shot.

Willamette improved to 3-5 on the season, while Concordia fell to 4-7.
  • Puget Sound Defeats Willamette, 74-66, as Loggers End Game with 12-4 Run

    TACOMA, WASH. --The University of Puget Sound outscored Willamette University 12-4 in the final 4:47, as the Loggers broke a 62-62 tie on their way to a 74-66 victory over the Bearcats on Friday, Dec. 3 at Memorial Fieldhouse. Kaleb Shelton led the Loggers with 14 points and 15 rebounds, including five free throws during the decisive run. Edric Egberuare also scored 14 points for UPS, which improved to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the Northwest Conference.

    SALEM, ORE. -- George Fox University shot 51.5% in the second half and ended the game with a 10-6 run, as the Bruins defeated Willamette University, 91-88, on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Cone Field House. The game was the Northwest Conference opener for both teams. GFU ended the night at 1-3 overall, 1-0 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 2-4 overall, 0-1 in the NWC.

    MONMOUTH, ORE. -- Willamette University fell to Western Oregon University in the championship game of the Capital City Classic, 96-73, on Saturday, Nov. 27 on the WOU campus. Western Oregon won the tournament with a 2-0 record, while improving to 3-3 overall. Willamette finished 1-1 in the tournament and dropped to 2-3 on the season.

The Bearcats improved their record to 2-2 on the season. Corban, which entered the game undefeated, fell to 6-1 overall.
