Malley Chosen NWC Student-Athlete of the Week after Averaging 31 Points

Shoots 50% on Field Goals, 47.6% on 3-Pointers and 85.7% at the Free Throw line

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior guard Terrell Malley (Portland, OR/Roosevelt HS) has been named Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week after breaking his career high for scoring twice in four days with 30 points against Linfield College on Jan. 22 and 32 points against Pacific University on Jan. 25.

Malley averaged 31.0 points per game during the week. He shot 50.0% from the field (20 of 40), connected on 47.6% of his attempts from 3-point range (10 of 21), and hit 85.7% of his free throws (12 of 14). He also averaged 4.5 assists per game to lead the Bearcats.

The Bearcats defeated archrival Linfield, 68-67, to open the week and lost to Pacific, 97-96 in overtime, to complete the week.

Against Linfield, Malley scored his 30 points by hitting 9 of 16 field goals, making 5 of 9 three-pointers and sinking 7 of 8 free throws. He scored the game-winning basket on a jumper with 1:07 left to break a 66-66 tie. During the game, he also registered five assists.

Three days later versus Pacific, he established another career high. On his way to 32 points, Malley was 11 of 24 from the field, including 5 of 12 on three-point attempts. He converted 5 of 6 field goals. He achieved four assists.

His 3-pointer with 2:27 left in regulation against Pacific gave WU an 80-78 lead. Later in regulation, he provided assists that gave the Bearcats leads of 82-79 and 84-82. Pacific tied the game on two free throws by Andrew Beatty with 14 seconds left and went on to win the game in overtime.

Malley's previous career-high was 28 points, set earlier this season against Montana Tech on Nov. 30, 2012.

For the season, Malley has accumulated 276 points and is averaging a team-high 17.3 points per game. He has scored 1,120 points so far during his four years with the Bearcats.

Willamette is 7-11 overall, 4-5 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats will play at George Fox University on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. (PST). WU will conclude the week by hosting the University of Puget Sound at Cone Field House in Salem, Ore., on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m.

Terrell Malley scored 30 points against Linfield and 32 points against Pacific.
