Boydell is Selected Second Team Academic All-America in Men's Basketball

SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University senior forward Jack Boydell (Sonoma, CA/Sonoma Valley HS) has been chosen as a Second Team selection to the 2022-23 Academic All-America Men's Basketball Team for NCAA Division III in voting by members of the College Sports Communicators (CSC, formerly CoSIDA). A total of 15 student-athletes in NCAA Division III nationwide were named to the Academic All-America Team, with six players on the First Team, four players on the Second Team, and five players chosen for the Third Team.

Boydell averaged 18.7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures in 21 of 24 games during the season, including 11 games with 20 or more points. Boydell has achieved a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.

"As a program, we couldn't be more fortunate to have someone of Jack's caliber representing us on the floor and in the classroom," Willamette Head Men's Basketball Coach said. "This recognition as a Second Team Academic All-American is a testament to the work he has done."

Willamette finished the 2022-23 season with a 5-19 record, including 1-15 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats ranked second in the NWC in scoring offense with 80.5 points per game and tied for first with 10.1 three-pointers made per game.

Second Team NCAA Division III Academic All-America

Jack Boydell (Sr., F) was selected to the NCAA Division III Academic All-America Team for the first time. He was Willamette's top scorer this season with his 18.7 points per game. His 5.1 rebounds per game led all Bearcats who played in at least 18 contests. He contributed excellent shooting in all phases of the game by hitting 50.3% on field goals (153 of 304), converting 40.4% of his shots from 3-point range (57 of 141), and sinking 87.6% of his attempts at the free throw line (85 of 97). He was named Honorable Mention All-NWC.

During one stretch of the season, he scored in double figures in 17 of 18 games with 14 in a row, including 10 consecutive games with at least 17 points. He scored a career-high 34 points at Multnomah University (Ore.) on Nov. 15, 2022.

He concluded the season ranked second in the NWC in scoring, third in 3-point percentage, fifth in overall field goal percentage, and fifth in 3-point field goals made per game. He ranked 21st in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage and was 76th in scoring average.

In his Willamette career, Boydell has scored 1,070 points while providing the Bearcats with 322 rebounds, 147 assists, 71 steals, and 18 blocked shots. His career free throw shooting percentage is 82.2%, as he had converted 152 of 185 attempts at the line. He has scored 28 or more points in a game four times.

Boydell is completing a double major in Economics and Data Science. He is participating in Willamette's 3+2 BA/MBA program, and plans to compete in basketball next season while completing his MBA degree.
