Willamette Completes First Round at NWC Championship

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University senior golfer Shane Adversalo (Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) is tied for 14th place after the opening round of the Northwest Conference Spring Championship at the Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, April 24. Adversalo carded an 80, good for an eight-way tie for 14th headed into the second day of play.

Robbie Beard (Sr., Yankton, SD/Yankton HS) of Willamette carded an 85 and is in 38th place after the first day.

Ryan Young of Whitworth University was the overall leader. Young shot a 74 and for a three-stroke lead over four individuals who are tied for second at 77.

Whitworth is the overall leader in the team standings at 309. Linfield College trails the Pirates by just one stroke, at 310. The University of Puget Sound is in third place at 318. Whitman College finished the day with a team score of 321 and is in fourth place.

Fifth place is a tie between Pacific University and Pacific Lutheran University. Each school finished the opening round with a score of 323.

George Fox University is in seventh place with a score of 327. Willamette finished the day with a score of 358 for eighth place. The Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College are in ninth place, eleven strokes behind the Bearcats.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow, Sunday, April 25 with the second round of action.
