Corban Defeats Willamette in Dual Meet at Creekside

Duwe Earns Medalist Honors for Warriors with a 73

SALEM, ORE. -- Corban University defeated Willamette University in a dual meet in men's golf at the Creekside Golf Club on Friday, March 11. The Warriors achieved a team score of 308 and claimed the top five individual finishers. Willamette ended the meet with a team score of 390.

Joey Duwe of Corban achieved medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73 over the 6,497-yard course. He won by four strokes over teammate Chris Dudley, who placed second with a 77. Duwe also took first place at the Willamette Invitational less than a week ago. He won the tournament, hosted by the Bearcats at the Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore., with a 3-under-par 69.

In the dual meet on Friday, Michael May and Joey Ziogas, both from Corban, tied for third place at 79. The Warriors also received a fifth place finish from Steve Landis, who shot an 81.

Kyle Derby (Fr., Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS) was Willamette's top finisher. He placed sixth with a score of 90. Cole Clearman (Fr., Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS) was seventh after carding a 94.

The Bearcats are not scheduled to compete again until April 2-3 at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic in Lacey, Wash. Tee-time at the Golf Course at Hawks Prairie is set for 8 a.m. (PDT) on the first day.
