Derby is Chosen NWC Student-Athlete of the Week in Men's Golf

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University golfer Kyle Derby (Fr., Oakdale, CA/Oakdale HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in a dual meet against crosstown rival Corban University on March 11. Derby was Willamette's top finisher in the meet with the Warriors.

Derby finished in sixth place overall with a score of 90 during the meet, which was hosted by Corban at Creekside Golf Club in Salem, Ore. Derby shot 47 on the front nine, but improved to 43 on the back nine.

He is in his first semester on the Willamette golf team after competing as a place-kicker on the WU football team this past fall. During the football season, Derby connected on 33 of 36 extra points and was successful on 3 of 5 field goals.

The next event on the Willamette men's golf schedule is the Northwest Conference Spring Classic, set for April 2-3 in Lacey, Wash. The tournament will be held at the Golf Course at Hawks Prairie, starting at 8 a.m. (PDT) on April 2.
