Bearcats are Tied for Fourth after First Day of Warner Pacific Invitational

Armelino Shoots 68 in First Round, is Tied for 4th after 36 Holes at 146

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Led by freshman Jacob Armelino (Fr., Redding, CA/University Prep), who shot a 68 in the first round, the Willamette University men's golf team tied for fifth place in the team standings following 36 holes at the Warner Pacific Invitational, on Monday, Oct. 7 at the Glendoveer Golf Course. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.

Armelino's 68 for 5-under-par was the low round of Monday's tournament action on the par 73 course. Armelino shot a 78 in the second round and was tied for fourth place overall at the end of the day with a score of 146.

Tyler Falk from Northwest Christian University (Ore.) was in first place on the leaderboard with a score of 142 (72-70). A.J. Nelson from Warner Pacific College (Ore.) was second at 143 (70-73), while Jared Lambert of Corban University was fourth at 145 (72-73).

Armelino was tied with Jesse Heinly of Concordia University (Ore.) for fourth place. Heinly also shot 146, with a 76 in the first round and 70 in the second round. A total of 50 golfers are competing in the tournament.

All four Willamette golfers shot at least one round below 80 on the first day.

Clark Wilson (Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) tallied a 76-79 for a total of 155 and was part of a seven-way tie for 15th place. Ryan Kukula (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) shot 77-80 for a total of 157. Chase Lamothe (Fr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) carded a 159 (76-83).

Northwest Christian topped the team standings with a 36-hole score of 604 (304-300). Concordia was second, just one stroke off the pace at 605 (307-298). Walla Walla Community College was third at 613 (305-308).

Willamette and Warner Pacific were tied for fourth at 617. The Bearcat, who led after 18 holes with a score of 297, shot 320 in the second round. Warner Pacific recorded a team score of 303 in the first round and 314 in the second round.

Corban followed in sixth place with a score of 620 (312-308), while Oregon Institute of Technology was seventh at 634 (317-317) and College of Idaho was eighth at 644 (325-319).
