Bearcats Finish Fifth at Warner Pacific Invitational

Armelino Ties for Fifth Place in Individaul Standings

PORTLAND, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's golf team finished in fifth place at the Warner Pacific Invitational at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Ore., The Bearcats finished with a two-day, 54-hole score of 923, five strokes in front of sixth place Walla Walla Community College, and three strokes behind fourth place Corban University.

Concordia University (Ore.) and Northwest Christian University finished tied for first place at the Invitational. Both teams shot a two-day total of 903. Host Warner Pacific College finished in third place with a score of 917.

Oregon Institute of Technology and College of Idaho also competed in the tournament, finishing in seventh and eight place, respectively.

Jacob Armelino (Fr., Redding, CA/University Prep) was Willamette's highest finisher in fifth place. His 68 for 5-under-par was the low round of Monday's tournament action on the par 73 course. Armelino shot a 78 in the second round and a 76 in the third round for a total score of 222.

AJ Nelson of Warner Pacific finished in first place on the leaderboard with a score of 214 (70-73-71). Jesse Heinly from Concordia was second at 217 (76-70-71), while Tyler Falk of Northwest Christian was third at 218 (72-70-76).

Jared Lambert of Corban finished fourth at 220 (72-73-75). A total of 50 golfers competed in the tournament.

Ryan Kukula (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) and Clark Wilson (Fr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) were the Bearcats' next-highest finishers, tying for 19th place with a three-round total of 233. Kukula shot 77-80-76, while Wilson shot 76-79-78.

Chase Lamothe (Fr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) rounded out Willamette's contingent, tying for 22nd place after shooting 76-83-76 for a total of 235.

Willamette returns to action at Michelbook Country Club in McMinnville, Ore.,on Oct. 15 for the Linfield Invitational. Play is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
