Cards a Score of 70 for First Place at the Pacific Spring Tune-up

SALEM, ORE. -- Chase Lamothe (Fr., Corvallis, OR/Corvallis HS) from Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Pacific Spring Tune-up at Quail Valley Golf Course in Banks, Ore., on Feb. 25. The tournament was hosted by Pacific University.

Lamothe took first place in the individual standings with a score of 70 and led the Bearcats to the team championship. His score was 2-under par, allowing him to win the tournament by one stroke over Drew Groshong from Lewis & Clark College, who shot 71. Joshua Mau of Pacific University placed third with a 72.

Willamette's winning team score was 292, as the Bearcats prevailed by eight strokes. Linfield College was second at 300, with Pacific holding third place at 310.

The Bearcats entered two full teams plus two individual golfers in the tournament. All five golfers on the first team achieved scores between 70 and 77. Lamothe was followed by Jacob Armelino (Fr., Redding, CA/University Prep) at 73, Ryan Kukula (Jr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) at 74, Peter Mitzel (Fr., Red Bluff, CA/Red Bluff HS) at 75 and Clark Wilson (Fr., Ocean Park, WA/Ilwaco HS) at 77.

Willamette's next action is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 and Sunday, March 9 at the Puget Sound Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by the University of Puget Sound at Fircrest Country Club in Fircrest, Wash.
