SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University's Trent Jones (Fr., Kenmore, WA/Shorecrest HS) shot two rounds under par at the 36-hole Willamette Spring Thaw on April 16-17, resulting in his selection as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week. It is the second time that Jones has been selected for the honor during the 2015-16 season.

He previously received the Student-Athlete of the Week award on Sept. 22 after taking first place and leading Willamette to the team title at the Pacific Fall Invitational at Quail Valley Golf Course. He shot 139 (68-71) at the Pacific event. It was his first collegiate tournament.

This past weekend at the Willamette Spring Thaw, Jones carded a 5-under-par 67 in the first round and a 3-under-par 69 in the second round. He took first place by nine strokes with an 8-under-par 136. His two rounds were the lowest rounds of the tournament and were two of only four rounds under par.

Jones also contributed to the Bearcats' team victory, as Willamette registered an overall score of 581 (291-290). The Bearcats trailed Linfield College by one stroke after the first round, but won by 16 strokes at the Wildcats finished at 597 (290-307).

Up next for Jones and the Willamette men's golf team is the Northwest Conference Tournament on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24 at Crossover Golf Course in Sunriver, Oregon. Willamette and Whitworth University  are tied for the overall lead in the NWC, with Pacific Lutheran University in third place. The NWC Tournament counts for one-half of the NWC championship.
