Davis Earns NWC Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, Ore. -- Austin Davis (Jr., Culver City, CA/Culver City HS) from Willamette University has been chosen as the Northwest Conference Men's Golf Student-Athlete of the Week after taking first place and leading the Bearcats to the team title at the Pacific Invitational on Saturday, March 13 and Sunday, March 14 Davis shot 1-under par 143 for 36 holes to win medalist honors by two strokes.

Davis registered a 1-under par 71 in the first round and then shot a 72 in the second round. He earned seven birdies and six bogeys during the two rounds while shooting par on 23 holes.

"It was a very good win, and he's incredibly deserving of the honor. He joins a big list of Bearcats to be selected," Willamette Head Men's Golf Coach Patrick Daugherty said. "He's such a steady player. He just doesn't make very many mistakes and he has matured into a very good competitor."

The Bearcats won the team championship at 600 on the strength of back-to-back scores of 300. The team was victorious by 23 strokes.

Willamette will be back in action on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28 at the Northwest Conference Fall Classic. The tournament, which was moved to the spring due to COVID-19, will be played at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, Oregon.
