Carr and Papajohn are Tied for 13th Place after 18 Holes at Pacific Invitational

BANKS, Ore. -- Willamette University first-year golfers Jack Carr (Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS) and Alexander Papajohn (Parker, CO/Lutheran HS) were tied for 13th place at the end of first round of the Pacific Invitational in men's golf on Saturday, Sept. 16 at the Quail Valley Golf Course. Carr and Papajohn each shot a 2-over par 74. Oliver Smith (So., San Jose, CA/Pioneer HS) from Willamette was tied for 15th place with four other golfers after shooting a 75.

In the team standings, Willamette was sixth with a score of 303. The Pacific Invitational will conclude with the second round on Sunday, Sept. 17.

At the top of the individual leaderboard after 18 holes was Mason Remington of Whitman College with a 4-under par 68. Brenden Borck from George Fox University was second at 2-under par 70. Two golfers, Douglas Bailey of Linfield University and Charlie Cloud from Pacific University were tied for third with matching scores of 1-under 71. A group of five competitors was tied for fifth place at even-par 72.

In addition to Carr, Papajohn, and Smith, Willamette's team included Paxton Jones (Jr., Wellington, NZ/Scots College) and Connor Murphy (So., Palm Desert, CA/Xavier College Prep). Jones shot an 80 and Murphy shot an 85.

Linfield held first place in the team standings at 1-under par 287. The Wildcats owned a 4-stroke lead over Whitman after the Blues finished the day at 3-over par 291. George Fox was third at 293, Pacific followed in fourth at 299, Pacific Lutheran University was fifth at 301, and Willamette was sixth at 303. The University of Puget Sound was in seventh place at 313 and Lewis & Clark College was eighth at 341.
