Olson is Tied for 18th Place after First Round of Bulldog Fall Invitational

BEAUMONT, Calif. -- Brock Olson (So., Kirkland, WA/Lake Washington HS) on the Willamette University men's golf team was tied for 18th place after the first round of the Bulldog Fall Invitational on Monday, Sept. 25 during action at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon. The second round in the 54-hole tournament, hosted by the University of Redlands, was partially completed on Monday, but play was stopped due to darkness.

On Tuesday, the second round will be completed and the third round will be played to finish the tournament. A total of 15 teams and 80 golfers are participating in the tournament.

Schreiner University (Texas) led the team standings after 18 holes with a score of even-par 288. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) was one stroke back at 289 in second place. Pomona-Pitzer (Calif.) held third place at 295, while Chapman University (Calif.) and California Lutheran University were tied for fourth place at 297. Willamette ended the first round in 12th place with a score of 307.

Olson registered Willamette's lowest score in the first round with a 74. Preston Lightle (Fy., Victoria, BC, Canada/Belmont Senior Secondary School) competing as an individual for the Bearcats, shot a 75 in the first round and was tied for 27th place. Lightle was one of only a few golfers in the overall field who completed the second round on Monday. He ended the 36 holes with a score of 6-over par 150 after shooting another 75 in the second round.

Joining Olson on the Bearcats' team entry were Alexander Papajohn (Fy., Parker, CO/Lutheran HS), Jack Carr (Fy., Anchorage, AK/West Anchorage HS), Jack McMullin (Sr., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS), and Oliver Smith (So., San Jose, CA/Pioneer HS). Papajohn carded a 76 and Carr shot a 77 in the first round, while McMullin and Smith each registered a 78.

The individual leaderboard in the first round was topped by Jamison Tan from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a 4-under par 68. He owned a two-stroke lead over a pair of golfers tied for second place, as Arthur Venderby of Chapman and Aaron Buck from Redlands each shot 70. Joshua Kwon of CMS and Drew Hermesmeyer from Schreiner were tied for fourth place at 71. Four golfers -- Jake Sitterle and Matthew McKenzie of Schreiner, plus Adam Cartozian of California Lutheran and Yuki Bannai of Pomona-Pitzer -- were tied for sixth place. The leaderboard also included a 10-way tie for 10th place at 73.
