Louvier Scores Hat Trick for Corban in 4-2 Victory over Willamette in Inaugural Capitol Cup

SALEM, OR -- The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead at 38:54 when Mikey Rodriguez (Jr., F, Beaverton, OR/Southridge HS) knocked the ball into an open net from four yards out, after Corban goalie James DelCastillo saved, but was unable to control, a shot by Forrest Donoho (So., F, Boulder, CO/Fairview HS). Willamette's held the lead for less than five minutes, as Louvier scored the equalizing goal at 43:21, after receiving a pass from Mark Mendenhall.

Louvier gave the Warriors the lead for good at 48:32, following a foul in the Willamette penalty area. Louvier converted the penalty kick, as Corban took a 2-1 advantage.

The third goal for Louvier was created by a through pass from Scott Marshall. Louvier gathered in the ball, took several strides toward the goal then shot to the lower left corner of the net.

Willamette pulled within 3-2 on a tap-in from four yards by Sam Moore (Fr., MF, Medford, OR/St. Mary's School). Rodriguez, who finished the game with a goal and an assist, created the chance with a nifty move near the end line, followed by a cross from eight yards to the left of the goal. Moore redirected
the ball into the net.

Corban answered quickly with an insurance goal by Tyler Grove, assisted by Eli Conlee, at 81:01. Grove recorded the goal on a six-yard shot. Conlee provided a through pass to set up the score.

DelCastillo faced 19 shots (7 on goal) and earned five saves in the win. Willamette goalkeeper Mark Bennett (Fr., Salt Lake City, UT/West HS) responded to 26 shots (11 on goal) and registered seven saves.

The game featured 46 fouls (26 on WU and 20 on CC), plus seven yellow yards. Four yellow cards were issued to the Bearcats and three yellow cards went to Corban players.

Willamette, which opened the season with five consecutive home games, will begin Northwest Conference action this weekend with a pair of road games. The Bearcats are slated to take on Whitman College on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Walla Walla, Wash., at 2:30 p.m. (PDT) WU will conclude the two-game road trip at Whitworth College on Sunday, Sept. 17, with game time in Spokane, Wash., set for 2:30 p.m. (PDT).
