Men's Soccer Snags a Win at George Fox, 3-2

NEWBERG, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's soccer team scored two goals in the second half on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 26, at George Fox University, and came away with a 3-2 victory. Willamette moved to 2-6 overall, 1-2 in the Northwest Conference. George Fox fell to 3-5 overall and to 0-3 in the NWC.

Casey Dineen (Sr., MF, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) scored first for the Bearcats just 10:54 into the first half on a penalty kick. After a goal by George Fox at 39:19, the two teams entered halftime locked at 1-1.

George Fox moved in front early in the second half, 2-1, on a goal by Brennan Altringer at 47:21. GFU goalkeeper Elliott Davis earned an assist on the play with a long kick to Altringer.

Willamette owned the rest of the scoring, as the Bearcats rallied for the win.

Brendan Dineen (So., D, Portland, OR/Grant HS) scored a goal for WU on an assist from Erik Kaufman (So., F, Portland, OR/Grant HS) at 63:05. About fifteen minutes later, at 78:25, Kaufman scored the game-winning goal for the Bearcats. He was assisted by Pete Kline (Jr., D, Cheyenne, WY/Cheyenne Central HS). Kaufman chipped the ball over the Davis' head and into the net.

For the game, Willamette had ten shots and took two corner kicks. George Fox registered 18 shots and six corners. Willamette keepers, Eben Hellekson (Jr., GK, Honolulu, HI/The University Laboratory School) and Bradley Eckerson (So., GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) compiled six saves.

The Bearcats are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 27 at Pacific University. The game is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. (PDT) in Forest Grove, Ore.
