Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Scores Lone Goal in Win over Bearcats

Hellekson Earns Seven Saves for WU

CLAREMONT, CALIF. -- Ian Anderson scored a goal for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 29:00 and the Stags kept Willamette University from scoring in a 1-0 victory over the Bearcats on Sunday, Sept. 12. CMS improved to 2-1-0 on the season, while Willamette fell to 2-2-1.

Anderson scored an unassisted goal to give CMS the edge in the first half. Two minutes later, about 31 minutes into the game, Sam Ullman of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps received a red card and was ejected from the game.

Willamette held a man-advantage for the remainder of the contest, but had difficulty creating scoring chances against the Stags. CMS ended the game with a 22-4 margin in total shots, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. David Taylor of CMS led all players with seven total shots.

Eben Hellekson (Sr., GK, Honolulu, HI/University Laboratory School) registered seven saves for Willamette. Joseph Swartley achieved three saves fro the Stage while recording the shutout.

Willamette returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 18 with the opening of the Northwest Conference schedule, as the Bearcats will take on Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. (PDT).
