Puget Sound Shoots Past Willamette, 2-0, in Men's Soccer

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's soccer team dropped a Northwest Conference match to the visiting Loggers of the University of Puget Sound, 2-0, on Saturday, Oct. 23. Puget Sound is now 8-3-5 overall and 5-2-3 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 3-9-3 overall, 1-7-2 in the NWC.

The Loggers scored their first goal of the game in the 13th minute when Ryan Rush's shot from eight yards out found the back of the goal. The goal was his third of the season and gave UPS a 1-0 lead which they held into the second half.

The score remained 1-0 until the 55th minute when Colin McIntosh scored his second goal of the season to give the Loggers a two goal advantage.

Willamette had their best scoring opportunity of the game early in the second half when Mike McGrew (So., MF, Portland, OR/Grant HS) had an open look from 15 yards out but his shot went high.

Chris McDonald earned the win in goal for the Loggers. He made three saves during the game to improve his record to 5-2-5 overall in goal.

Willamette's Eben Hellekson (Sr., GK, Honolulu, HI/The Univ. Laboratory School) made two saves during the game and allowed two goals.

The Bearcats will host Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday, Oct. 24, also at 2:30 p.m. Willamette's three seniors will be recognized before the game for the contributions they each made to the program during the last four seasons.
