SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS -- Willamette University freshman midfielder Austin Jacobson (Salem, OR/South Salem HS) scored twice, but #4-ranked Trinity University slipped past the Bearcats, 2-1 in overtime, in a men's soccer game on Monday, Sept. 3. The winning goal was scored by Brian Hines at 96:10.

Trinity, tied for #4 in the NCAA Division III Preseason Poll, improved to 3-0 on the season. Willamette fell to 0-2-1 overall.

The Tigers achieved an early lead when Hines scored an unassisted goal at 14:32. Including an assist on the tying goal later in regulation, plus the winning goal in overtime, Hines has three goals and two assists on the season.

Willamette tied the score with Jacobson's first collegiate goal midway through the second half at 67:58. He controlled a loose ball and shot it into the net. Jacobson gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead with another goal roughly 12 minutes later on a free kick at 79:50. Both goals were unassisted.

Trinity equalized just 33 seconds later. Roberto Camargo tallied the goal with an assist from Hines. Neither team scored during the remainder of the second half and the game moved into overtime.

Hines connected for the winning goal 6:10 into the first overtime. He was involved in all three of Trinity's goals, as he earned two goals and one assist during the game.

Overall, Trinity accumulated 23 total shots, including 12 shots on goal. Willamette was limited to nine total shots, which included three shots on goal. The Tigers outshot Willamette 14-2 in the first half but held slimmer margins of 7-6 in the second half and 2-1 in overtime. Trinity gained an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Hines, Murray Fraser and Nima Naderi each took three shots for Trinity. Jacobson, Mike McGrew (Sr., MF, Portland, OR/Grant HS) and Adan Vazquez (So., F, Woodburn, OR/Woodburn HS) provided the Bearcats with two shots apiece.

Willamette goalkeeper Brayden Calder (Fr., Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) registered nine saves for the Bearcats while playing all 96 minutes in the nets. Trinity goalie Tim Nelin earned one save.

After opening the season with three games in four days in Texas, the Bearcats are returning to Salem, Oregon, for their home opener. Willamette will host Northwest University (Wash.) on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Sparks Field. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. (PDT).
