Bearcats Surge Out to Big Halftime Lead, Down Lawrence, 7-0

Jensen Earns Two Goals and Two Assists; Martin Scores Twice

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University scored just 5:20 into the game and built a 6-0 lead in the first 32 minutes, as the Bearcats defeated Lawrence University, 7-0, on Sunday, Sept. 1 at Sparks Field. Trevor Jensen (Sr., MF, Chula Vista, CA/Bonita Vista HS) earned two goals and two assists, while Kevin Martin (Sr., D, Cardiff, CA/Francis Parker School) scored two goals.

Willamette improved to 2-0 with its second consecutive shutout. Lawrence fell to 0-2.

Jensen opened the scoring on a 36-yard free kick straight in front of the goal. His shot went into the lower left corner of the net. Jensen then set up the second goal with a through pass to Austin Jacobson (So., MF, Salem, OR/South Salem HS), who gathered the ball eight yards from the right post and scored into the left side of the goal at 18:11.

The Bearcats increased their advantage to 3-0 at 24:05, when Martin scored the first of his two goals on a header. The 8-yard shot hit the top of the net following a corner kick taken by Jacobson.

Willamette's next three goals were earned in rapid succession at 28:43, 29:41 and 31:49, as the Bearcats tallied three goals in 3:06.

Jensen scored on a 50-yard free kick that bounced over the goalie and into the net to start the three-goal outburst. Julian Hanlon-Austin (Fr., MF, Portland, OR/Grant HS) tallied the second goal on a three-yard tap-in after receiving a cross from Yazan Hishmeh (So., F, Ventura, CA/Saint Bonaventure HS). Martin added the third goal when he headed in a corner kick taken by Jensen.

The final goal of the game was scored 14 seconds after the second half started. Yazan Hishmeh (So., F, Ventura, CA/Saint Bonaventure HS) registered the goal by sending a 14-yard shot into the lower left corner of the goal following a through pass from Tyler Yates (So., MF, Kailua-Kona, HI/Kealakehe HS).

Willamette outshot Lawrence by an 18-5 margin, including 11-1 in the first half. The Bearcats achieved 13 shots on goal, while limiting the Vikings to three shots on target.

Adan Vazquez (Sr., F, Woodburn, OR/Woodburn HS) and Jensen each took three shots for WU. All three shots by Vazquez were on goal. Jensen scored on two of his three shots. Cameron Pieper led Lawrence with two shots, both on goal.

Braydon Calder (So., Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) and Julian Juarez (So., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School) each played 45 minutes in goal to share the shutout for the Bearcats. Calder improved to 2-0 with the win, while Jaurez registered all three of Willamette's saves. Joe Krivit took the loss in goal and earned six saves for Lawrence.

The Bearcats will play at home again on Saturday, Sept. 7 against Carthage College (Wis.). Game time at Sparks Field is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (PDT).
