Back-to-Back Wins Help Goalie Capture Second Conference Award

SALEM, ORE. -- After back-to-back wins this past weekend over last year's second place teams in the conference, Braydon Calder (Jr., GK, Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending on Sept. 28.

Calder finished the week picking up his fourth and fifth wins of the season behind a 2-1 victory over University of Puget Sound (Wash.) and a 3-1 win over Pacific Lutheran University (Wash.) that helped catapult the Bearcats into a three-way tie for second place in the current NWC standings.

In the Bearcats' 2-1 win over Puget Sound on Saturday, Calder registered a game-high seven saves on 15 shots (8 on goal) by the Loggers.

Twenty-four hours later in Willamette's 3-1 victory over Pacific Lutheran, Calder earned three saves on 10 shots (5 on goal) by the Lutes.

For the week, Calder allowed a combined two goals on 13 shots with 10 saves in 180 minutes between the pipes. Calder closed out the week with a goals against average (GAA) of 1.00 in the Bearcats' two games.

So far this season, Calder has appeared in nine games making eight starts and manned Willamette's net for almost 697 minutes. Calder has faced 115 shots (46 on goal) this year allowing nine goals and making 37 saves for a GAA of 1.16.

In two-plus seasons with the Bearcats, Calder has allowed a combined 47 goals in 3,519 minutes for a GAA of 1.20. Calder has made 184 saves and registered seven shutouts in 42 games between the pipes for Willamette.

Willamette returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 4, against Pacific University of Oregon beginning at 2:30 p.m. (PST) on Sparks Field in Salem.
