SALEM, Ore. -- Willamette University's Drew Alexander (Fy., D, San Mateo, CA/Junipero Serra HS) has been selected as the Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in the Bearcats' wins over Pacific University on Sept. 24 and George Fox University on Sept. 25. With the victories, Willamette improved to 6-0-2 on the season, 4-0-0 in the NWC.

Alexander provided strong and successful play at both ends of the field, as Willamette defeated Pacific 5-0 and George Fox 7-0. He helped the Bearcats register two shutouts on defense and helped Willamette limit each opponent to just one shot.

In addition, Alexander earned an assist on one goal versus Pacific and added two assists in the win over GFU. He has contributed four assists on the season -- all in the last three games.

"Drew has been a fan favorite since his first match for us, and it's no secret as to why," Willamette Head Men's Soccer Coach Sam Adelman said. "His competitive fire, willingness to put his body on the line, and his playmaking abilities, make him one of the more exciting players to watch. His demeanor and character are exceptional, and we look forward to him receiving this honor more times in the future."

Willamette has outscored its first eight opponents 27-8, including three shutouts, while achieving a 1.00 team goals against average. The Bearcats will play at Whitworth University on Saturday, Oct. 1. Game time in Spokane, Washington, is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
