(MEN'S TENNIS) TUALATIN, ORE. -- The Willamette University mens tennis team won every singles match and every doubles match against Pacific University for a 9-0 victory in Northwest Conference action on Friday, Feb. 23 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Club. Willamette improved to 2-2 on the season, including 2-1 in the NWC. Pacific lost for the third time in as many dual matches, all in the NWC.
The Bearcats opened the match with three quick wins in doubles. Ethan Heinrich (Fr., San Carlos, CA/Davis HS) and Geoff Klein (Jr., Sagle, ID/Sandpoint HS) were victorious over Josh Kai-Corpuz and Ryan Ford at #1 doubles, 8-2. In the #2 doubles match, Willamettes Fitz Paccione (Jr., Encinitas, CA/Cathedral Catholic HS) and Micah Mack (Fr., Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) downed Zack Hackett and Brett Honda, 8-2. The Bearcats did not lose a game at #3 doubles, as Reid Snowden (Sr., Napa, CA/Vintage HS) and Luke Lagattuta (Fr., Albuquerque, NM/Highland HS) defeated Alex Taimanao and Nick Forgey of Pacific, 8-0.
Willamette lost just four games in singles, as the Bearcats won every position in straight sets. Heinrich at #1 singles, Paccione at #2 singles, Mack at #3 singles and Lagattuta at #5 singles all won without losing a game, 6-0, 6-0.
The Bearcats will play their first home matches of the season on Saturday, Feb. 24, when Willamette hosts Pacific Lutheran University in a pair of NWC contests at the Courthouse Tennis Club (1339 Madison NE) in Salem, Ore. The Bearcats will play the Lutes at 10 a.m. (PST) and will take on PLU a second time at 3 p.m. (PST). Willamette will host Whitman College in another NWC home match on Sunday, Feb. 25 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. Match time against the Missionaries is set for 10 a.m.
