Baumgartner Earns NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Baumgartner (Fr., Albany, Ore./West Albany HS) of the Willamette University men's tennis team has been named Northwest Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for his results in matches played against Pacific Lutheran University and Lewis & Clark College.

For the week, Baumgartner went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. He defeated PLU's top player, 6-3, 6-3 to help Willamette earn a 6-3 victory over the Lutes. Against L&C, Baumgartner again defeated the opponent's #1, 6-0, 6-2. The Bearcats defeated Lewis & Clark 8-1 to stay undefeated in the NWC.

Baumgartner teamed with Luke Lagattuta (Sr., Albuquerque, NM/Highland HS) to defeat the #2 doubles teams for both Pacifc Lutheran and Lewis & Clark. Baumgartner and Lagattuta are now 7-0 on the season, 5-0 in the NWC.

The men's tennis team will resume play on March 5 in Spokane, Wash. against Whitworth University.

Michael Baumgartner went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles for the Bearcats last week.
