SALEM, Ore. -- Colorado College won all three doubles matches, but the Tigers had to survive several close sets, one third set, and one super tie-breaker in singles action to defeat Willamette University, 9-0, on Friday, March 17 at the Courthouse Tennis Center. Colorado College, ranked #20 in the West Region of NCAA Division III, advanced its record to 3-3 overall, Willamette fell to 1-8 on the season.

The most evenly matched competitions of the day were at #1 singles and #6 singles.

In the #1 battle, Noah Forman of Colorado College downed Gunnar Lee (Sr., Hilo, HI/St. Joseph School) of WU, 6-1, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1. At #6 singles Jack Benham won for the Tigers in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set against Colin Fisher (Fr., Caldwell, ID/Thomas Jefferson Charter School). Fisher won the first set, but Forman won the second set in a regular tie-breaker and took the super tie-breaker for a 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 11-9 victory.

At #2 singles, Jason Gutierrez of CC outscored Willamette's Aaron Schechter (So., Seattle, WA/James A. Garfield HS), 6-4, 6-3. The #3 singles match went to the Tigers, as Daniel Holland downed Douglas Hochmuth (Sr./So., Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd HS), 6-3, 6-2.

Logan Pepperl from Colorado College prevailed at #4 singles with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Hunter Yee (Fr., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School). At #5 singles, Kevin Barry zoomed through the first set for the Tigers, 6-0, but faced a strong battle from Derek Lund (Jr., Helena, MT/Capital HS) in the second set before winning, 7-5.

The #1 doubles match was won by Forman and Gutierrez over Willamette's top team of Lee and Schechter, 8-2. Holland and Pepperl won at #2 doubles, while Barry and Benham added a victory for Colorado Colelge at #3 doubles.

Willamette will be back in action with a Northwest Conference match at nearby rival Linfield College on Sunday, March 19. Match time is slated for 12 p.m. (PDT).
