Win in Super Tie-Breaker Sends Kabacy Past GFU's Fujimori, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Andrew Kabacy (Grad., Vancouver, WA/Skyview HS) of Willamette University won a super tie-breaker after splitting the first two sets to defeat Hunter Fujimori of George Fox University at #1 singles, as the Bearcats concluded the season with a Northwest Conference match against the Bruins. Kabacy moved past Fujimori, 7-5, 4-6, 11-9. Super tie-breakers require the winner to earn 10 points, and a two-point margin of victory is also required. The players were tied at 9-9 before Kabacy pulled ahead for the win.

George Fox won the overall match, 8-1. The Bruins are 7-0 in the NWC for first place and are 9-9 on the season. As a team, GFU is ranked #32 in NCAA Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Willamette concluded its season at 0-15, 0-7 in the NWC.

The Bruins claimed all three doubles matches for an early lead. In the #1 doubles match, Vahag Pashayan and Nanase Ebisu prevailed against Kabacy and Quentin Nigbur (Sr., Newberg, OR/Newberg HS), 8-4. At #3 doubles, Fujimori and Zach Moore downed Willamette's team of Trey Allen (Jr., Tucson, AZ/BASIS Tucson North HS) and Luca Casano (So., Honolulu, HI/Punahou School), 8-2. Winning at #2 doubles for GFU were Eli Mizerski and Lars Schmassmann.

Schmassmann won the #2 singles match against Nigbur of Willamette, 6-23, 6-0. Also winning in straight sets in singles for the Bruins were Nanase Ebisu at #3, River Apatu at #4, Moore at #5, and Ikuhu Ebisu at #6.
