Franchi Earns NWC Student-Athlete of the Week Award

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior pitcher Nikki Franchi (RHP, Los Gatos, CA/Saratoga HS) has been named NWC Softball Pitcher Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 22. Franchi went 2-0 during the week with a 0.00 earned run average and 24 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched.

Franchi struck out 11 batters in a 13-2 win over George Fox University on Thursday, March 19. She allowed just two hits and walked four batters. She gave up two runs, but both were unearned.

Against Dominican University (Calif.) on Sunday, March 22, she struck out 13 batters and gave up only one hit and no walks, as Willamette won 9-0. Both games involving Franchi's pitching decisions ended on the run rule in six innings.

The Bearcats were 4-0 overall during the week. In addition to the pair of wins by Franchi, WU also defeated George Fox, 4-0, on March 19 and downed Oregon Institute of Technology, 3-0, on March 22.

Following the wins over George Fox and Dominican, Franchi was 4-1 on the season. She had struck out 48 batters in 33 innings pitched.

Nikki Franchi recorded two wins as a pitcher to help Willamette go 4-0 during the week ending on Sunday, March 22.
