Scores 8 Runs and Earns 6 RBIs as Bearcats go 3-1 against NWC Competition
SALEM, ORE. -- Kelli Snyder (Sr., C, Longview, WA/Kelso HS) of Willamette University has been named the Northwest Conference Softball Hitter Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts as the Bearcats went 3-1 overall on in doubleheaders on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.
Snyder hit .750 (9 of 12) during the week with two doubles and two home runs to earn a remarkable 1.417 slugging percentage. She scored eight runs and provided the Bearcats with six RBIs.
In addition, Snyder walked twice, achieving an .800 on-base percentage. She also stole two bases.
Snyder registered two runs in each of the Bearcats' four games over the weekend. In Willamette's first game against Pacific on Saturday, she was 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs. She went 1 for 3 with a walk in the second game.
On Sunday at Lewis & Clark, Snyder was 1 for 1 with a walk and an RBI in the first game of the doubleheader. She concluded the weekend with a bang, going 3 for 4 with two home runs and a two RBIs.
Willamette won the first game of the weekend by scoring three runs in the sixth inning to rally for a 12-10 victory over Pacific. The Boxers recovered to win the second game, 14-7.
At Lewis & Clark, the Bearcats scored eight runs in the first four innings to claim an 8-0 victory on the five inning run rule. Willamette won the second game of the day 7-6 on an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning.
This season, Snyder leads the Bearcats in multiple statistical categories. She ranks first on the team in batting average (.475), hits (29), RBIs (17), slugging percentage (.721), on-base percentage (.560) , and stolen bases (6). Defensively, she leads the team in putouts, with 58.
Her batting average and on-base percentage also lead the Northwest Conference.
Willamette, which has won seven of its last nine games, will return to action on Friday, March 29 with a doubleheader against defending NCAA Division III national champion Pacific Lutheran University. First pitch of the game one is set for 12 p.m. (PDT) at the Willamette Softball Field.
