Rebol and Bassett-Smith Win Events at Mt. Hood Twilight

GRESHAM, ORE. -- Nicholas Rebol (Jr., Cottonwood, CA/Red Bluff Union HS) of Willamette University won the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase and teammate Trevor Bassett-Smith (Keizer, OR/McNary HS/Western Oregon Univ.) won the men's hammer throw at the Mt. Hood Twilight on Friday, May 7. Jennifer Luecht (Sr., Milwaukie, OR/Rex Putnam HS), also from WU, placed second in the women's 400-meter dash.

Rebol won the steeplechase with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:24.29, as he led a 1-3-5 finish for the Bearcats. Ben Donovan (So., Minneapolis, MN/South HS) of WU placed third in 9:42.24 and Chris Platano (Sr., Myrtle Point, OR/Myrtle Point HS) was fifth at 9:49.96.

Bassett-Smith's winning throw in the hammer went 177' 2" to improve his NCAA provisional qualifying distance from the 175' 11" he recorded on April 2. Conor McNeill of Pacific Lutheran University placed second at 169' 7". Steve Collins (Jr., Zillah, WA/Zillah HS) of Willamette took fourth place.

Luecht recorded a time of 57.97 seconds in the 400-meter dash and trailed only Catherine Sims of Concordia University (Ore.), who won the race in 56.35 seconds. Jaela Dinsmore (So., Hines, OR/Burns HS) of Willamette placed sixth in the event with a season-best time of 1:00.31.
