Anderson Takes 8th in Triple Jump, Thornton is 10th in 100 Hurdles at OSU

SALEM, Ore. -- Oliver Anderson (Jr., Salem, OR/Home Schooled) of Willamette University placed eighth in the men's triple jump and was 11th in the 100-meter dash, while WU's Katherine Thornton (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) took 10th place in the women's 100-meter hurdles on Saturday, April 30 at the OSU High Performance Meet hosted by Oregon State University.

Anderson registered a top mark of 43' 3.25" in the men's triple jump on his first attempt of the prelims. He cleared 42 feet on his next two jumps. His initial jump held up for eighth place through the finals. In the men's 100-meter dash, Anderson earned a time of 11.11 seconds to grab 11th place out of 33 competitors. He was just 0.08 out of eighth place and 0.13 out of sixth place.

Thornton finished 10th in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52 seconds. She was 0.21 out of seventh place. Her time was 0.11 away from her personal record of 15.41 seconds, set during the Titan Invitational at Lane Community College on April 8-9.

Also on Saturday, Andres Huante (So., Bloomington, CA/Grand Terrace HS) of Willamette set a personal record for the Bearcats in the men's 400-meter dash. His time was 53.06 seconds, an impressive drop of 0.60 seconds from his previous best of 53.66, set in the Willamette vs. Corban Dual on March 16-17.

Willamette will send a select group of athletes to the Oregon Twilight at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on Friday, May 6. The Bearcat also will compete at the Portland Twilight on Saturday, May 7 at Eldon Fix Track on the Lewis & Clark College campus.
