Waters Competes in Hammer Throw at Oregon Twilight

EUGENE, Ore. -- Samantha Waters (Jr., Kalispell, MT/Flathead HS) of Willamette University competed in the women's hammer throw at the Oregon Twilight on Friday, May 6. The meet was hosted by the University of Oregon.

Waters placed sixth out of eight competitors in the hammer throw. She fouled on the first two of her three preliminary round throws, but registered a mark on her third throw. In the finals, she had two fouls before earning her top throw of the evening on her last attempt with a toss of 129' 2".

Earlier this year, Waters placed third at the 2022 Northwest Conference Championships in Tacoma, Washington, where she earned All-NWC honors.

Up next for the Willamette track and field teams, four Bearcats will participate in the Portland Twilight at Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, May 7. Competing for Willamette will be Sami Riggs (Jr., La Verne, CA/Bonita HS) in the women's 400-meter dash, Katherine Thornton (So., Reno, NV/Reno HS) in the women's 100-meter hurdles, Oliver Anderson (Jr., Salem, OR/Home Schooled) in the men's 100-meter dash, and Alex Matteson (Sr., Seattle, WA/Nathan Hale HS) in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
