McMillin Earns 2nd Place in 60-meter Hurdles at GFU Indoor Meet #1

NEWBERG, Ore. -- Willamette University track and field athlete Mason McMillin (Fy., Lake Stevens, WA/Lake Stevens HS) earned second place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.68 seconds as the Bearcats participated in the George Fox University Outdoor Meet #1 on Saturday, Feb. 3.

McMillin was just 0.06 behind the winner of the 60-meter hurdles, Andrew Boyd of St. Martin's University, who led the field in 8.62 seconds. McMillin held off Justin Conklin of Western Oregon University by 0.01, as Conlin finished in 8.69. The event featured 26 competitors.

Other top finishers for Willamette included Petey Swan (Jr., Crescent City, CA/Del Norte HS), who placed sixth in the shot put and Steeley Mucken (Fy., Silverton, OR/Silverton HS), who was sixth in the long jump. Roan Bashiom (Fy., Salem, OR/North Salem HS) was seventh in the weight throw.

Swan's top mark in the shot put was 42' 10.75". Mucken registered a distance of 21' 4.25" in the long jump. Bashiom achieved a best weight throw measurement of 40' 11.50".

In addition, Jonas Cherry (So., Browns Valley, CA/Marysville HS) placed 10th in the 60-meter hurdles and Mason Williams (So., Happy Valley, OR/Clackamas HS) was 13th in hurdles. Parker Hisey (So., Renton, WA/Kentridge HS) was 10th in the weight throw. Kaleb Mcarthur (So., Independence, OR/Central HS) took 11th place in the long jump. Elijah Jones (So, Salem, OR/Central HS) tied for 12th in the pole vault and Mason Fitzwater (Fy., Snohomish, WA/Monroe HS) was 14th in the pole vault.

During the 60-meter hurdles, Cherry reached the finish line in 9.25 seconds, while Williams produced a time of 9.47 seconds. Hisey attained a top toss of 34' 1.25" in the weight throw. Mcarthur earned a distance of 20' 6.25" in the long jump. Jones successfully attempted 13' 7.25" in the pole vault, while Fitzwater cleared 13' 1.50".

Next on Willamette's schedule is the Whitworth Invitational in indoor track and field on Saturday, Feb. 10. The meet will take place at The Podium in Spokane, Washington.
