Shaw Wins 1,500-meter Run at Linfield Open by just under Six Seconds

McMINNVILLE, Ore. -- Willamette University women's track and field runner Morgan Shaw (Fy., Redmond, OR/Ridgeview HS) won the 1,500-meter run at the Linfield Open on Saturday, May 4, with a time of 5:01.68. She took first place by 5.83 seconds.

Shaw ran a very good time in the wet conditions and was about two seconds from her career-best of 4:59.61, set at the 2024 Northwest Conference Championships. Unattached runner Sonja Jones was second at Linfield in 5:07.51 and Gabriella Becker from Olympic College (Wash.) was third at 5:14.57. A total of 14 runners competed in the event.

Also for Willamette on Saturday, Kaiona Apio (Sr., Edmonds, WA/Edmonds-Woodway HS) was 14th out of 30 athletes in the women's javelin with a top throw of 102' 4".

Willamette is scheduled to compete at the GFU Last Chance Meet at George Fox University on Thursday, May 16. The meet will be held at Stoffer Family Stadium in Newberg, Oregon.
