Bearcats to Open NWC Schedule at Pacific Lutheran

TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University men's and women's basketball teams will open Northwest Conference play with games at Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 2. Both games will be webcast live on the Bearcat Sports Network, with Mike Allegre providing the play-by-play. The Bearcat women's team will take on the Lutes at 6 p.m. (PST), followed by the men's game, set for 8 p.m. (PST).

Be sure to return to the Bearcat Sports Network throughout the season, as all of Willamette's men's and women's basketball games will be webcast live during Northwest Conference play.

The Willamette women's team begins NWC action with a 1-5 overall record, following a tough non-conference schedule. The Bearcats are led by senior guard Molly Fillion (Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC), who leads the NWC with 14.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game.

Alex Zennan (So., PG, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS) is averaging 12.8 points per game for the WU women's team. NIcki Clowdsley (So., Post, Sammamish, WA/Skyline HS) has contributed 7.7 rebounds per game.

The Bearcat men's team is 4-3 on the season, after winning four games in a row. Willamette is averaging a solid 79.3 points per game, including an average of 86.5 points during the winning streak.

Cameron Mitchell (Jr., Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS/U. of Redlands) has provided WU with 21.4 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per contest. He is shooting 60.9% from the field.

Mitchell ranks first in the NWC in scoring and rebounding. He is joined in double-digit scoring by senior post Kyler McClary (Hillsboro, OR/Glencoe HS), who is averaging 15.3 points per game. Corey Costantino (Sr., Wing, Ashland, OR/Ashland HS) is WU's third leading scorer with 8.9 points per game.

Both of WU's basketball teams will play road games again on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at Linfield College. The women's game will start at 6 p.m. (PST), with the men's game at 8 p.m. (PST).

NOTE: The Kip's Corner Internet Release is taking a break for the holidays. Kip's Corner will return prior to Willamette's NWC home opener on Friday, Jan. 9 against Whitworth University. WU also will play at home on Saturday, Jan. 10 against Whitman College.
